Module 4: Collaborative storytelling

Digital storytelling can offer us a very interesting way to work in our lessons: the collaborative methodology. A collaborative storytelling can be a very good way to teach our students how to work in a group and take benefits from brainstorming. Today I want to share with you a work plan to use in a a 3rd ESO English class: Lesson 1: How can we create a story? The teacher is going to show a sample story created on two different e-tools: Padlet and Google Slides and she/he is going to explain how we can tell a story in a collaborative using these websites. Before starting to write and create we need to decide some points: 1) Story planning: who? what? where? how? 2) Which tool are we going to use? 3) Which images are we going to need? 4) Which music are we going to need? At the end of this lesson, the teacher is going to form groups. We need 3 people in each group. Module 3: Peter Rabbit found another frame!

Good morning storytellers! Today I want to share with you another tool naughty Peter Rabbit found: photopeach.com . It is a very easy tool to create stories with your students. You just have to upload your pictures, write down the text, choose a music and then it turns into a clip! The only thing I didn't like was that I couldn't manage to change the colour of the text so it could be more readable. Anyway, I think it is quite easier to use than prezi if you don't have much time or your students aren't very good at using e-tools. Meanwhile, have you seen my comic strip? Once upon a time... Module 2!

Digital storytelling consists in using computer-based tools to tell stories. This offers us the possibilty to use various media in one signle story: images, text, music, recorded voice, videos and so on. As we all know, the educational uses of Digital storytelling are multiple. On the one hand, teachers can create stories and present them to our students in an attractive way that is going to capture their attention. And, on the other hand, students can create their own stories and share their work with their classmates. In this post I am going to present a story created on Prezi. It could be used to show to our students the possibilities that this free-online tool provides us. In this way, it could be an example for a future task.

Homo narrans, we are all storytellers!

Did you know that homo sapiens  means "knowing person"? Some authors suggest that we should better call ourselves as homo narrans , "storytelling person". Our life is made of stories and it is, in fact, what differentiates us from other animals. We "know" because we are conscious of world and we are able to shape it through the "stories" we tell. We all learn, communicate and amuse ourselves through stories. So, without a doubt, we are all storytellers (and storylisteners!). If stories are so important in our life why don't use storytelling in class? Traditionally storytelling has been used in pre-school and primary education. In this way, images such as the one below are quite common in our classrooms. But what happens in secondary education?
